    A Novel Framework for Software Defined Wireless Body Area Network

    Software Defined Networking (SDN) has gained huge popularity in replacing traditional network by offering flexible and dynamic network management. It has drawn significant attention of the researchers from both academia and industries. Particularly, incorporating SDN in Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) applications indicates promising benefits in terms of dealing with challenges like traffic management, authentication, energy efficiency etc. while enhancing administrative control. This paper presents a novel framework for Software Defined WBAN (SDWBAN), which brings the concept of SDN technology into WBAN applications. By decoupling the control plane from data plane and having more programmatic control would assist to overcome the current lacking and challenges of WBAN.     Parameter constraints from shadows of Kerr-Newman-dS black holes with cloud strings and quintessence

    The motion of photons around the Kerr-Newman-dS black hole surrounded by quintessence and a cloud of strings is investigated. The existence of the Carter constant leads to that of unstable circular photon orbits on a two-dimensional plane not limited to the equatorial plane and unstable spherical photon orbits in the three-dimensional space. These circular or spherical photon orbits can determine two impact parameters, which are used to calculate black hole shadows. For the case of a spherically symmetric nonrotating black hole, the black hole shadow is circular and its size is independent of an observation angle and a plane on which a circular photon orbit exists. The shadow sizes are significantly influenced by the parameters involving the cloud of strings, quintessence parameter, magnitude of quintessential state parameter, and cosmological constant. When the black hole is spinning and axially symmetric, the black hole shadow is dependent on the observation angle. The effects of the parameters excluding the spin parameter on the sizes of black hole shadows in the rotating case are similar to those in the nonrotating case. Based on the Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87*, the constraint of the curvature radius is used to constrain these parameters.     Mobile Agent-based Cross-Layer Anomaly Detection in Smart Home Sensor Networks Using Fuzzy Logic

    Despite the rapid advancements in consumer electronics, the data transmitted by sensing devices in a smart home environment are still vulnerable to anomalies due to node faults, transmission errors, or attacks. This affects the reliability of the received sensed data and may lead to the incorrect decision making at both local (i.e., smart home) and global (i.e., smart city) levels. This study introduces a novel mobile agent-based cross-layer anomaly detection scheme, which takes into account stochastic variability in cross-layer data obtained from received data packets, and defines fuzzy logic-based soft boundaries to characterize behavior of sensor nodes. This cross-layer design approach empowers the proposed scheme to detect both node and link anomalies, and also effectively transmits mobile agents by considering the communication link-state before transmission of the mobile agent. The proposed scheme is implemented on a real testbed and a modular application software is developed to manage the anomaly detection system in the smart home. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme detects cross-layer anomalies with high accuracy and considerably reduces the energy consumption caused by the mobile agent transmission in the poor communication link-state situations.Griffith Sciences, Griffith School of EngineeringFull Tex

    Discovery of six high-redshift quasars with the Lijiang 2.4m telescope and the Multiple Mirror Telescope

    Quasars with redshifts greater than 4 are rare, and can be used to probe the structure and evolution of the early universe. Here we report the discovery of six new quasars with ii-band magnitudes brighter than 19.5 and redshifts between 2.4 and 4.6 from the YFOSC spectroscopy of the Lijiang 2.4m telescope in February, 2012. These quasars are in the list of z>3.6z>3.6 quasar candidates selected by using our proposed JK/iYJ-K/i-Y criterion and the photometric redshift estimations from the SDSS optical and UKIDSS near-IR photometric data. Nine candidates were observed by YFOSC, and five among six new quasars were identified as z>3.6z>3.6 quasars. One of the other three objects was identified as a star and the other two were unidentified due to the lower signal-to-noise ratio of their spectra. This is the first time that z>4z>4 quasars have been discovered using a telescope in China. Thanks to the Chinese Telescope Access Program (TAP), the redshift of 4.6 for one of these quasars was confirmed by the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) Red Channel spectroscopy.     Superradiant phase transition induced by the indirect Rabi interaction

    We theoretically study the superradiant phase transition (SPT) in an indirect Rabi model, where both a two-level system and a single mode bosonic field couple to an auxiliary bosonic field. We find that the indirect spin-field coupling induced by the virtual excitation of the auxiliary field can allow the occurrence of a SPT at a critical point, and the influence of the so-called A2A^2 term in the normal Rabi model is naturally avoided. In the large detuning regime, we present the analytical expression of quantum critical point in terms of the original system parameters. The critical atom-field coupling strength is tunable, which will loosen the conditions on realizing the SPT. Considering a hybrid magnon-cavity-qubit system, we predict the squeezed cat state of magnon generated with feasible experimental parameters, which has potential applications in quantum metrology and quantum information processing.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure
